Honour Board (# 3) with the 2022 Winner, Robert

Pett Family & Friends Tipping 2026
50 years

Well, Pett Family & Friends Tipping for 2022 is done and dusted, and well done again to Robert, who won by 5 from Helen, Judith and Annie who were tied on second (see the Ladder page). This is Robert’s fourth win in this comp in the last ten years. He has won in 2013, 2016, 2018 and now 2022, and every other year he has finished up near the top. He’s very good at this footy tipping and I’m sure he’ll be the man to beat again in 2023.
Yes, I’ll be back to round everyone up again for tipping in 2023, which will be the 47th running of this competition. As always, there’s no obligation to be in it. If you want to opt out next year, that’s no problem at all.
Thanks everyone for being a part of it this year. I enjoy running it. I’m still training Jeremy to take it over but it might be a few years before he’s ready to do that.
We have an interesting finals series to look forward to. Bad luck to the Blues (Cathy’s, Alice’s and Margot’s team). What a heart-breaking end to the season.
I hope to catch up with everyone over the summer.
Bye for now.
Craig

Janet was best this week. She was the only person to get all 9. But quite of few got 8: Annie, Austin, Helen, Judith and Robert. And there’s no change at the top of the ladder. It’s still Robert by 4 from Helen with Judith and Annie 1 further back (see the ‘Ladder’ page). It’s pretty clear that we can put down our glasses. No one’s going to catch Robert with one round left. But we’ll save the official congratulations till next week.
The Crows were in trouble in that second quarter but did well from then to win by 29 points. That’s 3 in a row. It will be great if they can finish the year with another win next week against Port, although Port had a great win today against Essendon, which will give them confidence.
One week left in Pett Family & Friends Tipping for 2022! Have a good week everyone.

Best of the week was Jeremy. In a tough tipping week he got 7. But at the top of the ladder it’s now Robert by 4. In second place now is Helen, with Judith and Annie 1 further back, and Cathy 1 behind that (see the ‘Ladder’ page). Can anyone catch Robert with two weeks left? It’s going to take something pretty special, that’s for sure.
That was a great win for the Crows in the west tonight, and in Rory Laird’s 200th. (I’m hoping Rory Laird can win the Brownlow. At the start of the year I put $20 on him to win it and if he does I’ll collect $2k). If the Crows can beat North Melbourne and Port in their last two games, both at Adelaide Oval, they’ll finish with 4 straight wins, which would be good for their confidence going into next year.
Have a good week everyone.

Leading the way this week were Robert and myself with 8. But what can you say about Robert? He’s pretty good at this footy tipping caper. Steady and consistent. Rarely has a bad week. He’s won this competition three times since 2013 and suddenly this year he is three clear with three weeks to go (see the ‘Ladder’ page). He’s going to be hard to catch.
That was a great win for the Crows on Saturday night, and well-deserved as they were clearly the better side on the night. Next week they play West Coast over in the west. They might be able to pull that one of too. And after that, North Melbourne at Adelaide Oval. Could we win three in a row?

Robert, Judith and Helen all got 7 this week (no one gets the draw – remember, you can actually tip a draw and if you get it right you get 4 – not that that has ever happened in the history of Pett Family/Pett Family & Friends Tipping). Anyway, Robert still leads by 1 but the person in closest pursuit is now Judith, with Cathy and Helen 1 further back. 4 rounds to go and it’s going to be interesting. Will Robert hold on for his fourth win in 10 years? As for me, I’m bringing up the year with Steph this year, which I’m putting down to a hang-over from last year’s success. I’m currently re-building getting ready for 2023.
The Crows were gone at quarter time against Sydney. Very disappointing. But will they be able to cause an upset against Carlton in Adelaide next Saturday night? Maybe. It will be a good game to watch.

Best of the week was Helen with 7, which puts her up into 3rd and only 2 off the lead, but the news of the week is Robert suddenly jumping into the lead on his own, 1 ahead of Cathy and Judith (see the ‘Ladder’ page). There’s 5 weeks to go and it’s a tight race.
Another loss for the Crows. I didn’t get to watch the game because of another commitment on Saturday afternoon although I saw on social media that most of the comments were positive, so, clearly they did pretty well. But this week they play Sydney in Sydney. It’s pretty hard to see them causing an upset there.
It’s great that North Melbourne finally had a win. As did Westies in the SANFL!

Leading the way this week with 8 were Alice and Janet. Then Judith, Helen and Steph got 7 (and another shout out to Steph for being the only one to get Essendon over Brisbane). There was no change at the top of the ladder. Cathy and Robert tipped the same, so Cathy still leads by 2, but now Judith is only 1 behind Robert, with Annie 1 further back (see the ‘Ladder’ page).
As for the Crows, yesterday I took Jeremy to a meet the players session that was held at the Punt Road Oval. All the players came and spoke with everyone, which was great (a couple of photos below). As for the game against Hawthorn today, well, the umpires hurt us, especially in the first quarter with soft free kicks in front of goal which gave Hawthorn the ascendancy, but at the same time the Crows don’t seem to have enough fire in the belly at the moment, which maybe is a consequence of Matthew Nicks being too nice a guy. Who knows.
This week there is no Thursday night game, but no prizes for guessing which team is featuring on Friday night….

Best of the week was Judith (Mum) with 7 and that puts her into equal third with Annie, 4 behind the leader Cathy who is now back to just 2 in front of Robert, who got 6 this week along with Alice, Annie, Austin, Helen, Janet and Margot. (For the Ladder, see the ‘Ladder’ page).
The Crows were good for much of the game but fell short against Melbourne. Port were good against Freo tonight as well but missed out. It’s looking pretty definite that there’ll be no SA team in the finals this year.
There’s another Thursday night game this week. It doesn’t feature the Bulldogs but they do get the Friday night game! I can’t understand why they’re so popular and get all the prime time games.

Annie and Cathy led the way this week getting 8, with Austin, Helen, Jeremy and Robert all getting 7. Cathy’s 8 now puts her in the lead by 3 (see the ‘Ladder’ page). Can Robert catch her? There’s still plenty of tipping to do in this season.
The Geelong-Richmond game was a beauty yesterday. Former Crow Tyson Stengle has come into some great form. It was good for the Crows to have a big win in Hobart today, even if North Melbourne did throw in the towel in the last quarter. The Port-Gold Coast game was a ripper too. Gold Coast were gutsy but well done to Port for hanging on.
There’s another Thursday night game this week, and, again, the Bulldogs are part of it. How many Thursday/Friday night games can one team be given in a season?!
