Round 17

Leading the way this week with 8 were Alice and Janet. Then Judith, Helen and Steph got 7 (and another shout out to Steph for being the only one to get Essendon over Brisbane). There was no change at the top of the ladder. Cathy and Robert tipped the same, so Cathy still leads by 2, but now Judith is only 1 behind Robert, with Annie 1 further back (see the ‘Ladder’ page).

As for the Crows, yesterday I took Jeremy to a meet the players session that was held at the Punt Road Oval. All the players came and spoke with everyone, which was great (a couple of photos below). As for the game against Hawthorn today, well, the umpires hurt us, especially in the first quarter with soft free kicks in front of goal which gave Hawthorn the ascendancy, but at the same time the Crows don’t seem to have enough fire in the belly at the moment, which maybe is a consequence of Matthew Nicks being too nice a guy. Who knows.

This week there is no Thursday night game, but no prizes for guessing which team is featuring on Friday night….

Round 16

Best of the week was Judith (Mum) with 7 and that puts her into equal third with Annie, 4 behind the leader Cathy who is now back to just 2 in front of Robert, who got 6 this week along with Alice, Annie, Austin, Helen, Janet and Margot. (For the Ladder, see the ‘Ladder’ page).

The Crows were good for much of the game but fell short against Melbourne. Port were good against Freo tonight as well but missed out. It’s looking pretty definite that there’ll be no SA team in the finals this year.

There’s another Thursday night game this week. It doesn’t feature the Bulldogs but they do get the Friday night game! I can’t understand why they’re so popular and get all the prime time games.

Round 15

Annie and Cathy led the way this week getting 8, with Austin, Helen, Jeremy and Robert all getting 7. Cathy’s 8 now puts her in the lead by 3 (see the ‘Ladder’ page). Can Robert catch her? There’s still plenty of tipping to do in this season.

The Geelong-Richmond game was a beauty yesterday. Former Crow Tyson Stengle has come into some great form. It was good for the Crows to have a big win in Hobart today, even if North Melbourne did throw in the towel in the last quarter. The Port-Gold Coast game was a ripper too. Gold Coast were gutsy but well done to Port for hanging on.

There’s another Thursday night game this week, and, again, the Bulldogs are part of it. How many Thursday/Friday night games can one team be given in a season?!

Round 14

Annie had an eventful week. She went for a holiday in Bali with some girlfriends, staying in beautiful huts, and she got covid and had to isolate! I guess if you get covid and had a choice as to where you could isolate, a hut in Bali would be up the top of the list. Anyway, after isolating she tested negative and flew home to Adelaide yesterday (Saturday).

In the meantime, Annie was one of six people to get 4 out of 6 tips this week. The other five were Austin, Cathy Margot, Ray and Steph. The 4 by Cathy puts her 2 in front of Robert, with Judith 2 further back (see the ‘Ladder’ page), but there’s still plenty of tipping left to be done.

Next week we are back to 9 games and there’s another Thursday night game. An interesting one, too – Melbourne v Brisbane.

Round 13

Four people got all 6 – Cathy, Janet, Jeremy and Margot. And in the see-sawing battle Cathy and Robert, Cathy’s 6 puts her back in front by 1, with Judith in 3rd place 2 behind Robert (see the ‘Ladder’ page).

South Adelaide boy Jason Horne-Francis is making news at North Melbourne but not all for the right reasons. He doesn’t seem happy that’s for sure. He’s signed a 2 year deal with North Melbourne but the Crows and Port must be getting their offers ready to lure him back to SA.

There’s another Thursday night game this week…

Round 12

Annie and I led the way this week with 5 but the news of the week is that we are back to a a 2 way tie at the top between Cathy and Robert. Judith is 2 behind the lead and there are plenty who are still in the hunt, including Helen, Annie, Jeremy, Austin and more (see the ‘Ladder’ page).

The Crows broke their 5 game losing streak, which is a good way for them to go into the bye this weekend. Their next game, the week after, is against Gold Coast at Metricon, which will be an interesting one.

We have a Thursday night game this week.

Round 11

I had a good round this week getting 8, then Alice, Austin, Helen, Jeremy and Robert all got 7. Cathy still leads but now only by 1 from Robert, with Judith 2 further back (see the ‘Ladder’ page).

Jeremy and I went to Geelong to support the Crows on Saturday, and Jeremy met the coach before the game (photo below). Their first 15 minutes or so was great but they couldn’t kick straight (again) and after Geelong then kicked two goals you could sense they were deflated. They had some good patches but they’re a team down on confidence and belief at the moment.

Next week the byes start. Only 6 games to tip on.

Round 10

Cathy got 8 and has now jumped out in front by 2 from Robert, with Judith 1 further back (check ‘the Ladder’ tab). A special mention to Ray who also got 8, and 7’s to Annie, Helen, Janet and Judith.

Another demoralising effort from the Crows after leading for most of the night. Their last quarter was, well, pathetic. I sometimes think that Matthew Nicks is not the type of personality who can really fire them up. Hopefully he proves that wrong against Geelong at Kardinia Park next Saturday. Jeremy and I will be there in the cheer squad.

Round 9

Cathy and Judith both got 8 this week – well done! So now Robert and Cathy, who have been swapping the lead back and forth between them recently, are now joint leaders, two one in front of Judith and with Jeremy one further back.

It’s starting to get getting depressing for the Crows. Another dismal loss. That’s 3 in a row after the great win against the Bulldogs in Round 6. Next week they play St Kilda at Adelaide Oval. The Crows desperately need a win but St Kilda are going well at the moment. As for Carlton, they are looking better every week (we have three hard core Carlton supporters in the comp – Cathy, Alice and Margot).

Round 8

Leading the way this week was Jeremy with 8, followed by Austin, Janet, Judith and Robert all getting 7. And Robert’s 7 gets him back in the lead by 1, as Cathy and Robert keep handing the lead back to each other each week lately (see the ‘Ladder’ page).

Jeremy and I went to the Crows against Margot’s Carlton tonight – we were in the cheer squad. Carlton were the better side on the night (I’ll grant that) but gee the umpires gave them everything in the first half, especially in front of goal, which made it hard for the crows and killed our momentum.

Happy Mother’s day to all the Mums.
